Q: Have you ever heard of Chubb auto insurance? I have my homeowners policy with them and they are pushing me to add my auto policy. Is it wise to have all of my insurance through the same company?

A: Chubb auto insurance is a very large, and well known, insurance company. As you know they also write insurance policies for homeowners. As far as we know Chubb is a reputable company. If they offered you a quote which you feel is a good price there is no reason not to use them.

As far as using the same company for your auto and homeowners insurance goes there is no real reason no to do so. This is especially true if the company is willing to offer you a discount on either or both for doing so.

The only reason we would advise against this is if the policy becomes too confusing for you to decipher what t actually says. In most cases, however, the policies will still be separate legal entities so figuring out what they mean should be no more difficult than usual.

You should still shop around for auto insurance quotes even if Chubb is offering you a package deal. If you mention this lower price to other insurers they may be willing to match or beat the quote you have from Chubb.

Chubb auto insurance is a good choice, but so are many others. It is highly recommended that you do quite a bit of comparison shopping before making a decision on an auto insurance policy. In addition to helping you find the best coverage, shopping around and comparing quotes will greatly help in saving your money on your car insurance premiums. While it may be tempting to jump on the first auto insurance rate you're quoted, be disciplined and take the extra time to shop around before making a decision.
